Kent County Council Admissions Information

All of the children who come to St. Nicholas School have special educational needs. All will have an Education and Health Care Plan, which identifies the child’s needs and describes the appropriate provision to meet those needs.Admissions are organised through a referral procedure co-ordinated by the Local Education Authority.

As soon as parents are aware that St. Nicholas might be an appropriate school, or a possible option, they are encouraged to make an appointment to meet the Headteacher and staff and to see the school in action.

The admission of children with Statements of SEN to schools is a matter for the LA who has statutory responsibility for arranging their provision.   There are admissions criteria for each special school that are applied in order to determine if a particular special school would be a suitable placement.

Please CLICK HERE to view the KCC webpage about Education, Health and Care Plans which includes information regarding admissions to special school.

The named officer in the relevant Area Education Office explains the arrangements for admission to parents and carers as part of the statutory assessment process or as part of any school transition process but further advice is available directly from:

  • SEND Enquiries Hub - send@kent.gov.uk

  • SEND contact centre on 03000 41 99 94 (Monday to Friday from 9am to 5pm) who will take your enquiry and pass it on to the SEND Enquiries Hub Team.

The SEND Local Offer

What is the SEND Local Offer?

Every local authority must publish a Local Offer. The SEND Local Offer tells you what support is available for children and young people with special educational needs (SEN) and/or disabilities, and their families. It should include information about education, health and care provision. It should also tell you about training, employment and independent living for young people with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

You can find the SEND Local Offer for Kent County Council (KCC) HERE

Who is it for?

The SEND Local Offer is for:

• children and young people with SEN and/or disabilities from birth to 25

• their parents and carers

• practitioners and professionals.

What is the idea?

The SEND Local Offer should:

• make it easier to find out what you need to know

• give you information about what is available

• tell you where you can get further information.

The SEND Local Offer should also make services more responsive to local needs.
